Puts you into an awkward situation, stuff like that.

If my Tottenham-supporting nephew's goalkeeping career hadn't fizzled out, and he'd ended up between the sticks for them, I think I wouldn't want't Tottenham to lose every match, as I currently do.

I'd probably want them to at least have a clean sheet in every match, except against us.

He'd have to put up with me wanting him picking the ball out of the net at least a Ratched's worht of times.

Not making excuses as it shouldn’t matter a fuck but aren’t Bowens family big Villa fans? It might explain why he lacked the composure he usually has?

'I find it a bit odd that some focus on Fornals. Most of our midfield and fullbacks have the same passing problem,'

Firstly, Fornals is a favourite of mine. But I'm not sure that was the case on Sunday. There's giving the ball away and there's giving the ball away. I thought Coufal and Cresswell looked after the ball well for the most part. Yes, they gave it away from time to time, but not in dangerous areas and only when trying to be creative - I can forgive that. Fornals kept giving the ball away under no pressure and to be honest Bowen and in the first half Rice were even worse.

Rice was desperately bad. Apart from just misplacing passes into touch, I counted four or five times when other players attempted to play one-twos with him and the ball bounced off his shin like a pinball off a bumper. And his backwards pass to Kehrer was fucking appalling. Thank fuck he sorted himself out at half-time.

Fuck knows what was going on in Bowen's head. He probably played himself out of the World Cup squad with that performance, entirely lacking in technique or footballing brains.

Good job we won yesterday a different result would have had the Samaritans switchboard jammed judging by some of the comments on this Board.

Slightly surprised Cornet didn’t see the field at all. Maybe he’s nailed on to start Wednesday in that case. It’s actually quite nice now we don’t have to use every single senior player worth anything, every single game. It’ll stop us having to flog the same 13-14 players into the ground over the course of a season. Those who are internationals have had barely a break in two years.

I find it a bit odd that some focus on Fornals. Most of our midfield and fullbacks have the same passing problem, not sure why the passing and confidence to pass forward has gone? I hope this win helps get it back.

Rice and Bowen wont be fully concentrated until the window closes. The idea of millions of pounds is distracting.

There is always one player getting dug out , and funnily enough they tend to be the one to score the winner. No matter how flukey

Fornals has been shit for quite a while though.

Sensible fans could see how utterly negative that starting line up was . Dour mans instincts will always betray him when back I'd to the wall. At his worst he is worse than allerdyce.

At least he admitted he got it wrong , I respect that.

I would say this win is papering over the cracks against a shit Villa side. Still a hell of a lot wrong. Will find out on Wednesday.

There was a period yesterday where Fornals gave it away very cheaply 5 or 6 times on the bounce, the comms mentioned it initially but then didn't comment on the next time he gave it away, just a silence, it's like they were embarrassed for him, and Fornals looked embarrassed too. He's a shocking passer of the ball, which is not really what you want in your team, especially when it can take so long to get the ball back sometimes.

Give him some credit though he never hides. When he scored he celebration was a little ott and that's because of the relief knowing he had got himself out of jail somewhat.

Moyes has his favourites, and Fornals is one of them.

It’s all a bit of a mish mash at present, new players ,old players with baby issues and Moyes not knowing the best team, a mess.

Ok, fair comment North Bank. I like the lad, seems a great character, and he does work bloody hard. I used to feel a bit bad digging him out, but for me he has become the biggest problem in this current team.

My reasoning is he has what I would say is the most important position in the team. He's playing centrally, and should be the link between midfield and attack. That is where you have your most technically proficient player, the creative force.

Fornals is one of the most wasteful footballers I've seen playing in that role. Possibly the worst for West Ham. We do a lot of dirty work at the back, defenders clearing their lines, midfielders making tackles, we then get the ball to him, and yesterday 30% of the time it's going straight back to the opposition. That is simply not good enough, nowhere near good enough in fact.

I made comment earlier, but you could see Scamacca so infuriated yesterday after he made a great run, there was such a simple through ball on, and once again Fornals fluffed it. Scamacca has only just got here, but he was perplexed and gave him an earful. I lost count of the amount of attacks that broke down because of Fornals.

The fact Moyes chose to play him in that position over the one player that has turned up this season is beyond baffling. I get it, he works hard, but fucking hell surely we should be expecting more than that from our no.10? I genuinely think it's the biggest problem in the team right now, and that's why I'm 'obsessed'. I find it fucking staggering that more people can't see what looks so obvious to me, but then again, what the fuck do I know.

Kandu great post and summed it up well.

Eerie having an opinion on Fornals is fine, but your opinion, which are always worth reading, is simply he's a useless cunt, but as we've seen from the last two years he's far from that, where he fits into this side I'm not sure I'd prefer him playing more central and deeper but Moyes prefers him on the left.

W4 still too many shirts yesterday for my liking but that's how our away support has evolved and old cunts like me need to embrace it.

Finally Scamacca needs to start, he reminds me of Dean Ashton and he'll definitely be a player for us

This match was most like our season start and transfer window.

Both were a shambles at start but ended well. It’s becoming typical of Moyes…

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview

Sorry this was only meant to be a few comments but turned into a mini match report .
Looking at the Villa starting line up, there was enough attacking quality there to not feel like this was a foregone conclusion . I believe we’d beaten them in our last 4 meetings. Both teams hadn’t started the season strongly and the lack of confidence showed in both teams. There was a 30 second period where it seemed to descend into almost kids football as both teams repeatedly gave the ball away, unable to string a single pass together.
I liked that we started brightly in terms of closing them down, snapping at their ankles. In the past we’ve often started half asleep.
Wasn’t happy with both our corners I saw, which both floated centrally into the edge of the 6 yard box and was easily caught by their keeper seemingly under no, or little, challenge. In a tight game like this, set pieces could be the difference and for the past 2 seasons our stats have shown us to be a substantial threat. Not today.
Pleased with our defence which coped comfortably with pretty much everything Villa tried. Fab hardly had a save to make.
Now whether that’s us defending well, or Villa ineffective in attack, I’m not sure. It’s usually a bit of both with these sort of things. Villa edged the first half and we the second. I was impressed with Scamacca generally, especially his strength holding the ball up. Unfortunately we provided little or no ammunition for him in front of goal. Was disappointed when he went off, would like to have seen if Antonio had come on in a wide, position and if they could’ve linked up, but, at the moment it seems it’s Scamaca OR Antonio and not AND Antonio. Of course, Scamaca played Thursday too so it may have always been the plan that he play about 60 minutes and Antonio replaces him.
Perhaps fortunate to stay on the pitch was Bowen who was mostly ineffective and had, for me, one of his worst games for us. Even the usually consistently impressive Rice seems off his game at the moment, giving the ball away more than I remember him usually doing so. Beni did well when he came on at half time and was probably the main reason we mostly dominated the second half. There are rumours he may be sold. I hope he isn’t . Yes he lacks consistency but he is one of our biggest goal threats, more creating than finishing. I thought Emerson did OK. I was probably more surprised Moyes started him than when he went off early. Johnson did something to his hamstring in the first half and Coufal replaced him. We got our slice of luck with Fornals, second half deflected shot, looping over the keeper and that proved the difference between the sides. I’d definitely rather be a West Ham fan than a Villa one from what I saw yesterday. Disgruntled Villa fans already questioning Gerrard’s credentials.
Hopefully 3 points and a second successive victory will boost confidence even more. We’re not quite fully firing yet but the quality of the squad is undoubtedly improving. Last season our attacking options on the bench were Yarmalenko, Noble, Vlasic and no striker. I believe it may take Moyes a little while to find the best blend with his new players but the quality is there now.
In Moyes we, well certainly I, trust.
Tin hat donned.

In the second half, it seemed we reverted to last season’s team bar Kehrer. Perhaps they just played better when they knew what each other were doing. Almost like they had a point to prove. As poor a first half as I’ve seen us play going on the opposition.

Looked much better second half, need more attempts on goal though so Scamacca over Antonio for me.

Hopefully Moyes can get the new bunch to settle quickly. There’s potentially a lot of changes there.

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Much needed result.

Terrible first half. Much improved second.

I also find myself getting frustrated with Fornals. Lots of misplaced passes/wrong decisions. Then when I’m slagging him off he comes up with the odd goal or brilliant through ball. Agree we do need someone more consistent. Hopefully that will be Paqueta.

Thought Kehrer played well. Liked what I saw. Surprisingly quick aswell.
